Sixty years later, who else than Natacha Wuyts could revisit O'Day's universe? It is surrounded by a world-class trio that this versatile singer decided to pay tribute to Anita O'Day. Passionate and always enthusiastic, Natacha sets the stage on fire at each one of her gigs ! Groove, energy and generosity !

MICHEL MAINIL – VINCENT ROMAIN QUINTET

SOUL VOYAGE

Vincent Romain (guitar), Michel Mainil (sax), Maxime Moyaerts (organ), Olivier Poumay (harmonica), Antoine Cirri (drums)

Today, the jazz fan can look back on one hundred years of jazz history, the first recordings reaching back to 1917 with the Original Dixieland Jazz Band. In jazz, some enjoy and some play, giving into creative re-exploration, a movement that began in the 80’s with the neo-boppers.  Here, the five members of Soul Voyage opted for a certain simplicity, avoiding the acrobatic melodies of be-bop. Soul jazz, as they see it, looked for the freshness and efficiency found in gospel and blues as opposed to the hard-bop of the fifties. Its greatest period, from 1960 until 1975, featured such musicians as the Hammond B3 king Jimmy Smith, Horace Silver, Lonnie Liston Smith, Lou Donaldson, John Patton, Richard “Groove” Holmes, Grant Green and the Adderley brothers among others.

CECI N’EST PAS UN TRIO

JAZZY AFTERNOON

Angelo Gregorio (sax/compositions) Julien Gillain (organ), Lucas Vanderputten (drums)

Angelo Gregorio is a very active Brussels jazz saxophonist who will present his trio and new album "Ceci n'est pas a trio". By the name "Ceci n'est pas a trio" Angelo wants to pay homage to the country that welcomed him ten years ago, Belgium, referring to Magritte's surrealism. At the heart of this trio is the passion for the great era of New Orleans and Swing, which began with the first jazz records of ODJB in 1917 till the swing of the great orchestras of the 40s. Angelo and his fellow musicians, in addition to the high musical level, have a desire: showing the audience that jazz is in perennial connection with other arts, and draws, interprets and re-elaborates facts, values, ancient and current traditions. A jazz trio that will swing you out of your chair !

Baz Trio + Nicolas Kummert

CARTE BLANCHE TO OSCAR GEORGES

Nicolas Kummert : Saxophone, Wajdi Riahi : Piano, Basile Rahola : Contrebasse, Oscar Georges : Batterie

For this special evening, Baz Trio will have the pleasure of joining Nicolas Kummert.  Jazz saxophonist, singer and composer Nicolas is one of the most prolific musicians on the Belgian scene. In his young career, he has recorded over 30 CDs as a leader or as sideman, and played in more than 40 countries worldwide. Nuanced, subtle and sincere, born of the great complicity that unites young musicians, Baz Trio's music takes its time, giving great importance to silence and acoustics. Recently arrived in Europe, the pianist Wajdi Riahi, influenced by traditional Tunisian rhythms and melodies such as Stambeli, brings particular colors to the sound of the trio, which is completed by the modern playing of the drummer Oscar Georges and the double bassist Basile Rahola, the main composer of the group. The diversity of the interpreters is a force where the inspiration of each member enriches the performance. This trio was noticed for its cohesion which gives birth to eclectic, original and melodic music. They won the first prize at the Mechelen International Jazz Contest 2018 in Belgium for "Best Group" and were finalists at the Zilina international Jazz Contest in Slovakia.

Erroll Garner is one of the great jazz pianists totally self-taught whose particularity was humor and how to play a right hand late on the left hand. The introduction of each piece was always a surprise for the audience ... Few pianists today can play as Erroll Garner ... for Druss Lecomte, Erroll Garner has always been his favorite pianist. He is one of the rare European pianists to have assimilated his style and to be able to play like Erroll Garner ... Erroll Garner started with a classic trio formula to finish in quartet format with double bass playing in two beats on the presentation of theme, a drums only played ballets (including the famous Ed Thigpen) and the contribution of congas ...

JULIEN GILLAIN VIOLIN PROJECT

JAZZY AFTERNOON

Guillaume Gillain (guitar), Alex Gilson (bass), Lucas Vanderputten (drums), Julien Gillain (violin)

This quartet that could be seen having a typical gypsy aspect, formed by Julien Gillain alongside his brother, offers a freshness approaching violin in a more swing and bop manner.

Supported by the double bass timbre and the drums, they explore the different colours brought by the dialogue between all their instruments. Influenced by the music of Didier Lockwood, Stéphane Grappelli but also modern musicians, it is with a strong complicity and a constant exchange that they revisit various standards from the Jazz tradition as well as they offer some original tunes.
