CECI N'EST PAS UN TRIO

SWING & NEW ORLEANS

Angelo Gregorio (sax), Julien Gillain (organ), Lucas Vanderputten (drums)

Angelo Gregorio is a very active Brussels jazz saxophonist and in this occasion will present his trio and new album "Ceci n'est pas un trio". By the name "Ceci n'est pas un trio" Angelo wants to give homage to the country that welcomed him ten years ago, Belgium, referring to Magritte's surrealism. At the heart of this trio is the passion for the great era of New Orleans and Swing, which began with the first jazz records of ODJB in 1917 till the swing of the great orchestras of the 40s. Angelo and his fellow musicians in addition to the high musical level, have a desire : show the audience that music, in this case jazz, is in perennial connection with other arts, and draws, interprets and re-elaborates facts, values, ancient and actual traditions. A jazz trio that will swing you out of your chair!

DISNEY MEETS JAZZ

Hanne Vansant (vocals), Mathieu De Wit (piano), Julien Fraipont (bass), Jonathan Taylor (drums)

Over the years, Walt Disney’s movies and their music touched the hearts of entire generations and got engraved in our collective memory. Disney’s music was always greatly influenced by the period of time in which the films were made. Jazz was an inevitable source of inspiration. The movies and their music’s rich history inspired this Belgian jazz sextet to tackle the immortal Disney repertoire. They selected songs from 10 of Disney’s earlier masterpieces made between 1941 and 1989. They jazzed up the repertoire with the utmost respect for the original written music, but gave it their own interpretation nonetheless. Jazz meets Disney or Disney meets Jazz?

Fabrice Mukuna (sax, vocals), Gonzalo Rodriguez (guitar), Ben Tequi (drums), David Ramos (piano), Leonid (percussions), Humberto Gonzalez (bass)

The music of Fabrice Mukuna evokes an almost folkloristic atmosphere that is reminiscent of his home village, its Luba-tongue and the land of Kasaï. The whole is infused with a more contemporary Western and jazz-like touch. His band reflects the multicultural aspects of his music. Through this compelling whole of colourful harmonies and powerful Afro Latino rhythmic cadenses, interaction with the public is also generously nourished and emphasized.

LOUIS ARMSTRONG CELEBRATION BAND

Michael Varekamp (vocals, trumpet), Peter Verhas (clarinet, sax), Harry Kanters (piano), Harry Emmery (bass), Erik Kooger (drums)

Trumpet player and singer Michael Varekamp was ten when he found a record of Louis Armstrong in his father's collection. The Town Hall Concert. When he put it on, his only thought was: That I want too! Ten years later, he starts travelling all over the world with bands such as The Dutch Swing College Band and later under his own name, wins the Kobe Award in Japan and plays in jazz at Lincoln center in New York. He has worked with a variety of musicians such as Branford Marsalis, Scott Hamilton,  Lillian Boutté and Kenny Ball. When he stayed in New York he did a pilgrimage to the house of Louis Armstrong where he played his trumpets. Once back, he decided to start a new band with pianist Harry Kanters and clarinet player Peter Verhas, dedicated to the music of Satchmo and New Orleans.
