Antonio Carlos Jobim (1927, Rio – 1994, New York), a Brazilian musician, composer and singer, is the father of bossa nova, which means “new way”, a new way of singing and playing, and which he made known throughout the world thanks in particular to singer Astrud Gilberto and saxophonist Stan Getz. Jobim was strongly influenced by the new American jazz movement of the 50s, known as bebop, whose harmonies he used (Charlie Parker, Dizzy Gillespie…), and by Chopin, for his melodic and harmonic style. And all to a danceable rhythm reminiscent of Rio carnival (samba) and the sensuality of beautiful Brazilian beaches…
