Earthway Quintet was born listening to a masterpiece album from 1961 : « Ray Charles and Betty Carter ». This incredible duo with big band has been a great source of inspiration to sister and brother Nat and Max Van Eerdewegh since they’ve  discovered it last Christmas. Both being pianist and singer, they never had a band together before, but you’ll feel in this deep and energising set the obvious and lifelong complicity that gather them around music. With these outstanding musicians and friends, they’ve created a new quintet and they’ll play famous and rarer songs of that album as well as underground tunes once played by Betty or Ray.

Rob, Miel and Sébastien are friends sharing moments of music through jazz jamsessions andstudent life between Brussels and Antwerp. It came spontaneously through their minds to practice together during the Covid-lockdownperiod of 2021 when they were not so much gigs around... The idea was to create a space of «explorations». Each one of them is bringing his own musical vision and his own compositions (or even our favorite standards of the moment) to the trio. But don’t get confused ! The three fellow musicians are really comfortable to explore together because they know very well each other, playing in other kinds of musical projects together like inEVIGS or in Lupa Gang Gang. Be very welcome to listen to the music of this trio, this is an attempt to explore our respectiveunivers with a common denominator : We like when that’s swing !

Guy Verlinde & Olivier Vander Bauwede

The Music Village Rue des Pierres 50 Steenstraat, Brussels

The positive power of Blues

Guy Verlinde (vocals, guitar), Olivier Vander Bauwede (harmonica & guitar)

Over the past decade, Guy Verlinde has dominated the Belgian blues scene and toured Europe non-stop with his band The Mighty Gators. He recorded 12 albums in 11 years and played at numerous prestigious clubs & international festivals where he shared the bill with greats such as: B.B. King, John Fogerty, Tony Joe White, Santana, John Hiatt, Canned Heat, Jeff Beck … In recent years he mainly toured in a small line-up, where he performed the acoustic listening songs of his album "All Is Forgiven" and showed that besides the blues, he is also at home in the Americana & the singer-songwriter genre.

His album Standing In The Light of a Brand-new Day is a new step in his musical and lyrical evolution, but his love for acoustic music remains unchanged. Guy is assisted by the young classy musician Olivier Vander Bauwede. He is one of the new generation of Ghent blues musicians. Influenced by Steven De Bruyn (El Fish, The Rhythm Junks), he explores the most diverse music styles with his harmonica's and goes a lot further than the traditional blues licks. He is currently studying jazz at the Brussels Conservatory and also plays guitar.

It will be a concert full of stories about love, loss, hope, resurrection… but above all about the positive power of music. A concert not to be missed with dreamy, acoustic, narrative listening songs that will touch the audience’s soul.

MATHIEU DE WIT AND BAND

The Music Village Rue des Pierres 50 Steenstraat, Brussels

DISNEY MEETS JAZZ

Hanne Vansant (vocals), Mathieu De Wit (piano), Julien Fraipont (bass),
Jonathan Taylor (drums)

Over the years, Walt Disney’s movies and their music touched the hearts of entire generations and got engraved in our collective memory. Disney’s music was always greatly influenced by the period of time in which the films were made. Jazz was an inevitable source of inspiration. The movies and their music’s rich history inspired this Belgian jazz quartet to tackle the immortal Disney repertoire. They selected songs from 10 of Disney’s earlier masterpieces made between 1941 and 1989. They jazzed up the repertoire with the utmost respect for the original written music, but gave it their own interpretation nonetheless. Jazz meets Disney or Disney meets Jazz?

HERMANN LITLLE BIG BAND

The Music Village Rue des Pierres 50 Steenstraat, Brussels

"Swinging with Django"

Livio Luzzi (violin), Romain Verwilghen (guitar),
Alain Decroix (accordion, piano),
Antoine Lissoir (alto sax, clarinet),
Julien Cuvelier (tenor sax, clarinet),
Julien Delbrouck (barytone sax, bass clarinet), Raphaël Hallez (trumpet), Antoine Marcel (trumpet), Timothé Lemaire (trombone), JB Guerrier (bass), Daniel Duchateau (drums)

Created in Brussels in 2017, the HLBB is the result of nocturnal encounters during after hours jam sessions at Bar Herman and Stompin'At Saint Gilles. The eleven musicians of this "small" large ensemble share their passion for Django Reinhardt, Stéphane Grappelli, Duke Ellington, Count Basie, Mary Lou Williams and many others. The ensemble is characterized in particular by the interpretation of original arrangements written by the various members of the band but also by an atypical orchestration where violin and accordion dialogue with woodwinds and brass.

While continuing their exploration of the repertoire of the "Swing Era", they are currently deepening a repertoire entirely dedicated to the singularity of the work of the fabulous gypsy guitarist Django Reinhardt: "Swinging with Django".

Rahona

The Music Village Rue des Pierres 50 Steenstraat, Brussels

From African Music to Jazz

Manuel Hermia (tenor sax), Julien Marga (guitar), Joël Rabesolo (guitar),
Nicolas Puma (bass), Lucas Vanderputten (drums)

At the origin of Rahona - which means clouds in Malagasy - there is the meeting between two guitarists with roots as different as complementary, Joël Rabesolo and Julien Marga. The immediate understanding between the two musicians and their will to create a two-guitars quintet, let a strong sound identity emerge, which became the cornerstone of Rahona. The compositions chosen for their first album reveal the facets of each musician in the project: from African music to contemporary jazz and film music, Rahona plays with its influences (Bill Frisell, John Scofield, Charlie Haden...) throughout a poetic album, brilliantly illuminated by the melodic phrases of the saxophonist Manuel Hermia.

New project : Julien Marga Quartet

The Music Village Rue des Pierres 50 Steenstraat, Brussels

Followed by our Jazz Jam Session

Julien Marga (guitar), Geoffrey Fiorese (piano), Jim Monneau (bass),
Lucas Vanderputten (drums)

Trained at the Royal Conservatory of Brussels and active on the Belgian and French scene for several years, the guitarist Julien Marga is indeed to be placed in the "promising new blood" category.

"Hypnosis", the latest album of his quartet released in October 2017, is a record of great coherence, focusing on the sound of the band and highlighting a keen sense of melody. Julien Marga plays a subtle, elegant jazz, tinged with Afro-American and Malagasy influences.

A blend of taste and aesthetics that is reminiscent of some illustrious guitar leaders such as John Scofield or Bill Frisell. In the background of each composition, the influence of the ECM label and its sense of space.
