SWING BLUES & BOOGIE WOOGIE
The Music Village Rue des Pierres 50 Steenstraat, Brussels, BelgiumPHILIPPE LEJEUNE QUARTET
Philippe LeJeune, piano
Paolo Loveri, guitar
René Stock, acoustic bass
Tristan Patigny, drums
French pianist Philippe LeJeune is a perfect example of the mixture of jazz and blues which was especially an important strain in the jazz tradition. The young pianist attended in 1968 a concert in Reims (France) by master boogie woogie and blues pianist singer Memphis Slim, and immediately put an end to his classical efforts and began teaching himself piano blues, scouring local record shops fort LP's by boogie woogie greats. In 1980 he was invited by Memphis Slim himself - who had been a Parisian citizen since 1962 - to cut an album titled "Dialog In Boogie" as a piano duet.
Philippe Lejeune's playing creates a strong blues flavor of soulful, swinging jazz. His repertoire reflects the pianist important early influences, honoring the blues and jazz masters who inspired him when he first began playing jazz. His playing is always a brilliant assortment of sobriety and expressiveness. Philippe LeJeune has a wide repertoire ranging from classic barrelhouse boogie woogie piano to Duke Ellington and Horace Silver tunes as well those of Milt Jackson and Neal Hefti, but he sounds 'at home' when playing the blues.
Philippe LeJeune has released seven CDs in the United States, the most recent is "Cleveland Gateway" (2019) recorded in a trio format. He also makes numerous appearances in major festivals including Detroit Jazz Festival, Cincinnati Blues Fest, Monterey Bay Blues Festival, Jazz N'June Festival in Huntsville AL, Kuumbwa Jazz Center in Santa Cruz CA, Art Tatum Jazz Heritage Festival in Toledo OH, and has been a regular guest of first rate American jazz clubs as Baker's and CliffBell's (Detroit MI), Nighttown (Cleveland OH) or Cezanne (Houston TX) ... His performance at the Motor City Blues & Boogie Woogie Festival (Detroit, 2005) was recorded live to be edited into P.B.S. television specials and DVD.
Living in Toulouse, France, LeJeune has also performed for many years throughout Europe in the jazz festival and blues circuit (France, Spain, Belgium, Switzerland, Czech Republic, The Netherlands, United Kingdom) and in Africa (Tunisia, Senegal). As an educator and clinician he has taught workshops in music schools, conservatories of music, and has lead seminars at jazz festivals throughout France and USA. Philippe LeJeune's name was introduced into the famous "New Grove Dictionary of Jazz" (Barry Kernfeld) in 2001.
Philippe LeJeune is doing his part to continue a legacy by blending classic jazz, blues and boogie woogie, with his own stylings. He explores an impressive variety of blues styles and grooves, leaving listeners with a happy feeling.

JAZZ JAM SESSION (free entrance)
The Music Village Rue des Pierres 50 Steenstraat, Brussels, BelgiumIGOR GEHENOT TRIO
Igor gehenot - piano
Sal La Rocca - bass
Umberto Odone - drums
The project was launched in 2022 by a close-knit trio: pianist Igor Gehenot, double bassist Sal La Rocca, and drummer Umberto Odone. Their original intention was simple: to play comforting jazz standards in a spirit of returning to their roots after the upheavals of the health crisis. Together, they revisit the great names of post-bop, from Freddie Hubbard to Lee Morgan, Mulgrew Miller, and Nicholas Payton, with freshness and vitality.
It is from this initial impulse that Shining Face, the pianist's new album, emerges. Dedicated to his son, this new opus is distinguished by a clear common thread: a taste for swing and melody. In keeping with his previous albums, Igor Gehenot affirms his musical signature more than ever: finely crafted writing, harmonic sensitivity, and profound artistic coherence.
Driven by an obvious chemistry between the three musicians already united in the Sal La Rocca Quintet. Between original compositions and inspired reinterpretations of standards, pianist Igor Gehenot's new group explores a vibrant post-bop repertoire that is both demanding and accessible.

A pianist, vocalist, composer, and bandleader, Green leads her trio through theatrically intricate, lyric-driven ballads, high-energy swing, and heroic instrumental compositions. Her sets weave original works with reimagined pieces by Mulgrew Miller, Duke Ellington, Blossom Dearie, and more — bridging eras with a distinctive touch.
Critics call her “one of the most gifted vocalists working today” (Paris-Move) and “one of the most quietly revolutionary vocalists of her generation” (Thierry De Clemensat). Jazz legend Christian McBride describes her as “one of the most talented and spirited people I know.” In 2025, her magnetic performances and undoubtedly-cool band chemistry earned her a Jazz Roads Touring Grant.
Green has performed and recorded with Rich Perry, Steve Wilson, Scott Robinson, Christian McBride, George Coleman, and Billy Hart, and has sold out venues including The Kennedy Center, Birdland, and the DC Jazz Festival. Her fifth album, Corner of My Dreams — a surrealist, storybook journey through love, grief, and imagination — releases August 2025.
Even in the largest halls, Kelly Green plays as if you’re the only one in the room.

After "Big Wheel", I'm continuing on my path as drummer-leader in the form of a trio.
Wishing to reveal a new facet of my sound identity, I have created a repertoire based on the color indigo.
At first glance, the color blue tinges with violet, but it's also a denomination for sensitive, creative people.
Driven by these two ideas, I've composed sound canvases within which I invite the listener to travel.

Mo van der Does : clarinet

Oscar Ployart Wetche : piano
Davor Stehlik : banjo
Tomek van Leeuwen: upright bass

Roaring Cats is a swing/hot jazz band founded in Amsterdam in 2018 by Sam Ghezzi and Davor Stehlik. During these years the band, started as a quartet, developed into a small orchestra featuring the horn section Joan Codina, Mo van der Does and the piano player Oscar Ployart Wetche.
After several concerts in festivals, venues and arranging sessions, their repertoire grew into a set of original arrangements of 20’s\30’s compositions, melting different identities and musical ideas.
Through a philologically conscious approach, their sound reflects the development of the music born in New Orleans, symbol of a mixture of sounds from an abundance of cultures.
Within the boundaries of a musical language that feels distant in time but close to the most natural and spontaneous artistic expressions they took the challenge of giving value and new significance to the roots of jazz.
Combining the artistic and entertaining content, they are able to offer a unique way of performing which captures the interest of art seekers and jazz connoisseurs as well as a more inexperienced audience.
In order to succeed, they took the risk of limiting themselves to the style restrictions and parameters that eventually allowed them to experiment and create something new. By using this approach they can express musical ideas in the most diverse ways, coming up with different paths to investigate the beauty of simplicity.

BLUES
The Music Village Rue des Pierres 50 Steenstraat, Brussels, BelgiumMatthieu Van - "The Seventh Son"
Matthieu Van : Piano/vocal
Sal La Rocca : bass
Matthias De Waele : Drums
Can « middle class white boy » authentically play the blues?
This question of legitimacy haunted pianist Matthieu Van until he discovered Mose Allison (1927-2016). This white pianist from Mississippi sang the blues with a phrasing reminiscent of African-American bluesmen, while simultaneously developing a sophisticated piano style influenced by Thelonious Monk.
Immersed in rural blues from childhood, Allison simply went "wherever his ears led him." This philosophy was a revelation: musical authenticity transcends origins.
"The Seventh Son" extends this spirit by celebrating the universality of blues and jazz.
Matthieu Van takes us on a festive and intimate journey, where Allison's flegmatic irony and groove find a contemporary echo. His answer to the question, "Can a white person play the blues?": "Challenge accepted!"

AfaMed: a musical journey where Arab-Andalusian roots blend with the hypnotic rhythms of Amazigh music from the Rif Mountains. With powerful compositions that take us back to the past. This shared past that we all have.
Taitamuki is a contraction of two Quechua words: taita, meaning father/ancestor/sage, and amuki, which signifies silence. The wisdom of silence, ancestral silence, and the silence of our ancestors serve as constant sources of inspiration and new discoveries... Our ancestors entrust us with a mission: not to reduce them to silence, especially at a time when traditional music struggles to be broadcasted and preserved.
The transcriptions, arrangements and personal compositions resulting from our research into little-known Latin American rhythms serve as an act of resistance, seeking to refresh these rhythms while honoring musical heritage.
Join us on this journey where each piece immerses you in a place, a culture and a tradition.
May Ecuador's san juanito, Uruguay's candombe, Brazil's maxixe, Argentina's chacarera, Bolivia's takirari and other musical surprises from the rich Latin American continent resonate deeply in your soul!!

Jasper Soffers piano

If you have listened to great live jazz in Belgium and in the Netherlands during the last 30 years, then you’ve most certainly had the pleasure to savior Belgian/Dutch pianist Johan Clement’s sophisticated and swinging style. Besides being a tremendous soloist, and the leader of his own trio, he has been recognized by international jazz Masters as an exceptional accompanist, sharing the stage with the cream of classic jazz.
Guitarist Jeanfrançois Prins first met Johan Clement at famous Studio Monster for a recording session some 36 years ago, and they have regularly performed together ever since, in many different settings and venues.
When Clement decided to retire from his performing career, it seemed only natural for Prins to honor his friend’s musical achievements as part of the 25th Anniversary celebrations of the Music Village. For this, he surrounded himself with Belgian all-stars musicians who worked with both of them over the years, Bart de Nolf on bass, and Bruno Castellucci on drums, plus one of Clement’s most esteemed colleagues and friends, Dutch piano great Jasper Soffers.
For some Johan Clement’s favorite repertoire, expect to hear some original compositions by Jeanfrançois Prins, and many great jazz standard tunes from the repertoires of Oscar Peterson, Bill Evans, A.C. Jobim, Michel Legrand, etc… Lush melodies and swinging grooves, for a warm, joyful, and groovy pre-Holidays concert.

Among the singers, there are some external reinforcements, some well known on the Belgian jazz scene, and wonderfull young soloists who already make talk about them.
The choir’s repertoire is full of great standards from the worlds of jazz, gospel and groove. Songs by Stevie Wonder, Ray Charles, Paul Simon, James Taylor, Count Basie and Pete Churchill. ...Plus a few Christmas-flavored songs for this vocal concert that promises. Atmosphere guaranteed! Eric Clapton is not only the composer-performer of songs that touch the heart and soul (Wonderful Tonight, Old Love, Tears in Heaven, River of Tears, …), but he also and above all embodies the entire history of rock and blues: from his time in the Yardbirds, to his collaborations with John Mayall & the Bluesbreakers, with Duan Allman in Derek and the Dominos, … which marked the history of Rhythm'n'Blues and Blues-Rock forever, without forgetting the group Cream which single-handedly and in the space of two years paved the way for groups like Led Zeppelin and consequently for the Hard-Rock that followed.
His interpretations of unforgettable covers like I Shot the Sheriff, Cocaine, Knockin' On Heaven's Door, … have (almost) succeeded in making us forget the original songs.
Finally, Eric Clapton is in constant dialogue with the giants of Rhythm'n'Blues: Muddy Waters, BB King, Big Bill Broonzy and especially Robert Johnson. How can we forget his masterful covers of Hoochie Coocchie Man, Sweet Home Chicago, Hey Hey Baby Hey or Goin' Down Slow…
Emmanuel Picardi, accompanied by his group Old Love, pays tribute to this legend of blues and blues-rock by getting as close as possible to his mind, his heart, his soul.

3 VOCALS
The Music Village Rue des Pierres 50 Steenstraat, Brussels, BelgiumThe Jacquelines
Iris Berardocco/ Sara Raes/ Eva Tulkens: vocals
Stijn Wauters: piano
Frederik Madou: bass
Nico Manssens : drums
The Jacquelines made a triumphant debut in 2013 with Gee Oh Gee (Sony), which was immediately broadcast on radio stations and climbed the Belgian charts. The singles Hypochondria and Gee Oh Gee, along with their catchy music videos, instantly won over the public.
At the heart of The Jacquelines is Iris Berardocco. The singer of Italian descent showcased her songwriting talent with Gee Oh Gee, delivering a full album that feels straight out of the 1940s. Her fiery temperament helped The Jacquelines stand out from other retro swing trios. She has a gift for crafting original lyrics—sometimes humorous, sometimes socially engaged. For the second album Leaving The Circus in 2018, Berardocco let loose, adding a quirky edge to her songs while broadening her musical range.
The Jacquelines had the privilege of performing live with Adamo, and they created a three-part vocal arrangement of the hit Don’t Cry for Louie at the request of Dani Klein (Vaya Con Dios).
At the same time, they continue to honor their great inspirations, The Andrews Sisters, with songs like Rum & Coca-Cola, Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy, and more.
On stage, Iris is joined by two talented singers, Eva Tulkens and Sara Raes. This charming trio, with perfectly harmonized pure voices, is backed by three outstanding musicians who provide the rhythmic backbone of the group: Stijn Wauters (piano), Frederik Madou (double bass), and Jelle Van Giel (drums).
Those lucky enough to witness the three ladies and their swinging band in action know that their concerts never go unnoticed. It’s no surprise that The Jacquelines quickly earned their place on theatre and festival lineups. On stage, they deliver! They give everything to the music and to their audience!
