Herbie Hancock, born on April 12, 1940, in Chicago, is a celebrated American jazz pianist and composer. As a child prodigy, he performed with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra at age 11. In the 1960s, he joined the Miles Davis Quintet, playing a pivotal role in the evolution of jazz’s post-bop era. Hancock’s illustrious career includes groundbreaking work in jazz-funk fusion, 14 Grammy Awards, and a Kennedy Center Honor in 2013.
