Ladies and gentlemen, it’s Whisky o’ clock !

The Music Village Rue des Pierres 50 Steenstraat, Brussels, Belgium

SOUL BLUES FRENCH CHANSON

Federica Morelli vocals
Paolo Loveri guitar
Eric D'Agostino bass
Lucas Vanderputten drums

Whisky o'clock was born out of a desire to share in whole sips our love for soul, blues, jazzified whisky and French chanson from behind the barrels. A repertoire that embraces Diana Kroll, Paolo Conte, Gainsbourg, Piaf, Sting as well as original compositions.

Songs are distilled and refined with the deep, peaty voice of Federica Morelli, an Italian singer whose “double malt” accent would make any distillery in Scotland or Navarre tremble. On guitar, the all-powerful, exciting, millesimé touch of Paolo Loveri ; on double bass, Éric D'Agostino, musical refiner with the woody tones and barbed presence of a good old Lagavulin. On percussion, the tasty, smoky flights of Lucas Vanderputten.

A must for every mouth, for an unforgettable Wisky'O Clock evening.

Tribute to Benny Goodman

The Music Village Rue des Pierres 50 Steenstraat, Brussels, Belgium

Peter Verhas (Clarinet), René Harvengt (Vibraphone),
Paul Bourdiaudhy (Drums),
Jasper Soffers (piano),
Stefan Willems (Bass)

Benny Goodman learned clarinet at his synagogue, bolstered by two years of classical training. He made his professional debut at 12 and became part of the rich Chicago jazz scene, steeped in the music of New Orleans. Goodman first recorded in 1926 and spent several years as a first-call musician in New York. His 1934 band was broadcast on the popular “Let’s Dance” radio show which aired coast to coast. An otherwise unsuccessful tour in 1935 ended in a smash hit in Los Angeles where the audience went wild. Thus, it is said, swing was born and Goodman became its name King of Swing !
As a composer Goodman contributed to ”Stompin’ at the Savoy,” “Seven Come Eleven,” “Air Mail Special,” “Flying Home,” “Don’t Be That Way,” ”Lullaby in Rhythm,” “If Dreams Come True,” and “Soft Winds.”
Goodman also helped racial integration in America. In the early 1930s, black and white jazz musicians could not play together in most clubs or concerts. In the Southern states, racial segregation was enforced by law. Benny Goodman broke with tradition by hiring Teddy Wilson to play with him and drummer Gene Krupa in the Benny Goodman Trio. In 1936, he added Lionel Hampton on vibes to form the Benny Goodman Quartet.

Nilson Matta (bass), John Snauwaert (sax, flute), Hendrik Braekman (guitars),
Greg Houben (trumpet, vocals), Bruno Castellucci (drums)

In his Brazilian Voyage project, Nilson Matta starts from the Brazilian roots music and rhythms from this rich culture. But also in Brazil musicians are always looking for new influences in their music and therefore this music is constantly changing and developing.

With saxophonist John Snauwaert, Nilson has brought along his Belgian blood brother. John has already visited the land of samba several times and has been working for six years on various projects together with bass player Nilson Matta, from whom he got to know Brazilian music from closer.

He has been asked by the organization Samba Meets Jazz, from New York, to teach in New York and Rio De Janeiro for an international Samba Meets Jazz stage in the coming years.

Those who prefer it a little "warmer" should not miss this passage from Nilson Matta's Brazilian Voyager.

The Music Village Rue des Pierres 50 Steenstraat, Brussels, Belgium

Laurent Doumont : Vocals & sax
Lorenzo Di Maio : Guitar
Vincent Bruyninckx : Keyboards
Jacques Pili : Bass
Mimi Verderame : Drums

Laurent Doumont has been taking his grooves out to clubs and festivals on the streets of Brussels and abroad for more than 20 years, trying to bring color to Belgium’s grey. Recently, an introspective quest of his Sicilian descent gave birth to the « Americano » project. Twelve great Italian standards joyfully adapted in the Soul Jazz idiom he cares for. A very personal project indeed. Try to imagine Celentano, Modugno or Paolo Conte covered in the manner of Marvin Gaye, Al Green or Serge Gainsbourg… If you close your eyes, you can almost hear the waves on the beaches of Capri.

TAITAMUKI Feat. Joël Rabesolo and Renato Martins

The Music Village Rue des Pierres 50 Steenstraat, Brussels, Belgium

Latin American rhythms

Sergio Carvajal Del Salto, guitar and requinto; Jose Buc Chavez, bass
Joël Rabesolo, guitar; Renato Martins, latin percussions

Taitamuki is a contraction of two Quechua words: taita, meaning father/ancestor/sage, and amuki, which signifies silence. The wisdom of silence, ancestral silence, and the silence of our ancestors serve as constant sources of inspiration and new discoveries... Our ancestors entrust us with a mission: not to reduce them to silence, especially at a time when traditional music struggles to be broadcasted and preserved.

The transcriptions, arrangements and personal compositions resulting from our research into little-known Latin American rhythms serve as an act of resistance, seeking to refresh these rhythms while honoring musical heritage.

Join us on this journey where each piece immerses you in a place, a culture and a tradition.

May Ecuador's san juanito, Uruguay's candombe, Brazil's maxixe, Argentina's chacarera, Bolivia's takirari and other musical surprises from the rich Latin American continent resonate deeply in your soul!
