If The Art was a “hymn to empathy” (El Pais, Spain) and “a treasure chest of intimate and introspective portraits of family life during the pandemic” (West Coast Soul, Germany), this latest release is a hip, deeply personal exploration of how music can make life more livable in difficult times.

Joseph Nowell (Piano), Umberto Odone (Drums), Lorenzo Simoncelli (Bass)

Born in Legnano (MI) on 8 December 1972. He began studying piano in 1980 under the guidance of Irina Langôva.

In the years that followed, as a keyboard player, he gained his first musical experiences in small bands, among which Fabio Lorenti and the Patente F band stands out for its ability, despite the young age of its members.

The band played between 1989 and 1991, gaining much praise and recognition.

Between 1991 and 1993, in addition to continuing as a keyboard player, he worked with Westudio Records and Pongo Edizioni Musicali as a studio manager manager.

In 1994, driven by a passion for listening to Blues music, he began studying the diatonic harmonica with the help of Egidio Ingala and, at the same time as studying the harmonica, he resumed studying the piano with maestro Sante Palumbo, a leading name in Jazz pianism in Italy.

In 2002, he met Max De Aloe and immediately became attracted to the chromatic harmonica.

Once he was introduced to the instrument, he perfected himself first with Sante Palumbo and later with Luciano Zadro (2005 - 2009) in order to deepen his knowledge of 'jazz' harmony and improve himself in improvisation.

From 2006 to 2008 he performed in a duo with pianist Markelian Kapedani, playing a repertoire of Balkan/jazz music.

In 2008, he released his first solo album: TUTTOLOGY, a pop/jazz work mainly focusing on harmonica soloism

From 2010 to 2014, he was leader of the band "the Magnetoscopics" with whom he produced the album "Heart Attack" in 2012. In recent years the band has performed in clubs all over Italy and has become a reference point on the Italian independent blues scene.

In 2013 he was a guest at the Harmonica summer festival in Varna Bulgaria and performed on Bulgarian radio and television.

from 2014 to 2017 he was a member of the Swiss band 'Marco Marchi & the mojo workers' with whom he performed an average of 60 concerts a year all over Europe and took part in some of the most important European blues&jazz festivals: Lucerne Blues Festival, JazzAscona, Blues to Bop Lugano, Hondarribia Blues Spain, Jazzfovaros Hungary, Moon &Stars festival.

from 2018 to 2020 he resides in Brussels, and it is there that the writing of the 3rd album BREEJO takes shape, an album aimed at returning to Italy in 2021

SH GROUP + Jazz Jam Session

The Music Village Rue des Pierres 50 Steenstraat, Brussels

Pierre-Antoine Savoyat (Trumpet), Jonas Le Roy (Saxophone),
Matteo Di leonardo (Guitar), Niklas Von Werne (Drums),
Sébastien Hugue (Upright Bass)

The SH Group is a young band that formed at the Regional Conservatory of Chalon-sur-Saône in 2017. The group's roots can be traced back to the Trio Jazz By Three, which included Sébastien Hugue on double bass and composition, Victor Prost on drums, and Tom Juvigny on guitar. After catching the attention of saxophonist Pierre Girard and trumpeter Samuel André, the group expanded to become a quintet and adopted the name SH Group.

While the band has experienced some changes to its lineup over the years, it remains focused on delivering beautiful, simple music that draws inspiration from various genres, such as rock, jazz, and pop. Rather than prioritizing language or style, the band emphasizes the vibration of the sounds and the attitude displayed while playing. The goal is to create a sense of openness, sharing, and community, free from intellectualism or rigid traditions. The SH Group is made up of a group of friends who are passionate about playing music together. In the spring of 2019, the SH Group had an opportunity to showcase their talents when they performed as an accompaniment to the Quartet of Pierre Durand (guitarist) during a regional tour in Burgundy Franche-Comté, organized by the Regional Center of Jazz (Centre Regional du Jazz en Bourgogne - FC). Since then, the group has played regularly in the Bourgogne-Franche-Comté region and beyond. Their first record, the "SH Group EP," was released on March 12, 2020. After some lineup changes, the SH Group relocated to Belgium and now includes Pierre-Antoine Savoyat on trumpet, Jonas Le Roy on saxophone, Matteo Di Leonardo on guitar, Niklas Von Werne on drums, and Sébastien Hugue on double bass and composition. Despite these changes, the band's focus on delivering beautiful and simple music that fosters a sense of community and openness remains unchanged.

(piano), Guylain Domas (bass) and Lucas Vanderputten (drums)

Cornelius "Johnny" Hodges (July 25, 1907 – May 11, 1970) was an American alto saxophonist, best known for solo work with Duke Ellington's big band. He played lead alto in the saxophone section for many years. Hodges is considered to be one of the definitive alto saxophone players of the big band era. He had a pure tone and economy of melody on both the blues and ballads that won him admiration from musicians of all eras and styles

His highly individualistic playing style, which featured the use of a wide vibrato and much sliding between slurred notes, was frequently imitated.

This will be the case again tonight, with the tribute of saxophonist Antoine Lissoir surrounded by the best rhythm section of the kingdom

Jeanfrançois Prins is a melodic storyteller with a unique voice on his instrument. His adult life has been focused on one thing: music.

As a jazz guitarist, he has collaborated with many of the world’s jazz giants, and as a composer, arranger, musical director, and producer,

he has thrived in projects ranging from jazz to world music, film scores, classical, avant-garde, pop, R’nB, and new music.

Live and on recordings, Prins has been associated with such artists as Toots Thielemans, Ivan Lins, Lee Konitz, Eddie Gomez, Quincy Jones, Michel Legrand, Kenny Wheeler, Gary Bartz, the New York Voices, and many more…

An internationally sought-after leader, accompanist and guest soloist, having spent most of his career between New York City and Berlin, Jeanfrançois recently moved back to his roots: Brussels, where he also took over the family’s label, GAM Records. He shares his poetic and passionate music on a daily basis in new endeavors, collaborating with vocalists and instrumentalists alike. Having so far released seven albums as a leader, and about 50 albums as a guest soloist, he is featured in the book “The Great Jazz Guitarists – The Ultimate Guide”

(Scott Yanow © 2013).

Prins’ vocabulary runs the gamut of jazz guitar. He has an immediately recognizable sound and style, one where melody is what counts, however relaxed or adventurous the context may be.

Martin de Marneffe invites Alexia Waku

The Music Village Rue des Pierres 50 Steenstraat, Brussels

Jazz & Soul

Alexia Waku (Vocals), Martin de Marneffe (Piano), Philippe Kanza (Bass), Angelo Moustapha (Drums)

A voice !  And what a voice!

Both powerful and subdued, hoarse in the bass, crystalline in the treble, with an impressive range.

Influence by Arheta franklin, Anita Baker, Chaka khan, Nina Simone, Cesaria Evora ...

This magnificent voice is that of Alexia Waku, invited by the pianist Martin de Marneffe, at the Music Village in Brussels.

These two have known each other for a long time.

The complicity between the singer who was, among other great feats of arms, one of the choristers of Mylène Farmer and the jazz pianist trained in particular at Berkley Music College, this complicity is manifest and obvious.

Kind of Blue Tribute

The Music Village Rue des Pierres 50 Steenstraat, Brussels

BRUSSELS JAZZ WEEK END

Pierre Malempré (trumpet), Michel Mainil (sax), Thomas Champagne (sax),
Maxime Moyaerts (piano), Jean Van Lint (bass), Jan de Haas (drums)

On August the 17th 1959, trumpeter Miles Davis published the album “Kind of Blue”. This recording is still considered as the most

important work of Miles Davis.

Best-selling jazz album, first Jazz Gold Record, “Kind of Blue” is recognized as the most influential album of the whole jazz history.

As his usual, Miles had the sagacity to propose this album at the right moment. On one hand, a generation of musicians didn’t want to sideline tradition and, on the other hand, a group of vanguard creators tried to open new doors.

Miles Davis, supported by his peers, opened a new approach, the modal jazz. Forty years after his recording, this album is considered as a turning point in jazz history, a way of moving away from dense compositions, coming back to the melody …

The project of (re)presenting “Kind of Blue” was born out of the meeting and desire of 6 musicians to recreate in their way the essence of this legendary album. The pleasure of playing together music that didn’t lose his freshness and creativity.
