He was lucky enough to open for the late Lucky Peterson. He plays with singer Eddie Gazel in the group "The One Eyed Cats", and occasionally collaborates with singer Emilie Hedou and the famous American saxophonist and entertainer Sax Gordon. Colson-Vergaert 5TET

The Music Village Rue des Pierres 50 Steenstraat, Brussels

Tribute to Horace Silver

Seba Colson (trumpet), Nero Vergaert (tenor saxophone),
Milan Verbist (piano), Toon Rumen (double bass),
Simon Van Brandt (drums)

The Colson-Vergaert Quintet is a jazz quintet founded by five young jazz musicians who met in the hallways of the Conservatory of Antwerp.

These young jazz cats love to play hard bop and on the 7th of april, they will celebrate one of their favourite composers in the genre: Horace Silver.

Sister's legacy as a composer may be greater than as a pianist, because his works, many of which are now jazz standards, continue to be performed and recorded worldwide. As a composer, he led a return to an emphasis on melody.

In 1954, pianist Horace Silver teamed with drummer Art Blakey to form a cooperative ensemble that would combine the dexterity and power of bebop with the midtempo, down-home grooves of blues and gospel music. The results are what would become known as hard bop, and The Jazz Messengers were one of the leading exponents of this significant era in jazz history. In all, the music Horace Silver is the very definition of a style that dominated jazz in the 1950s and '60s.

As Art Blakey would say it: ‘Take of your shoes and have a ball !’

JEAN-LUC PAPPI & FRAJILL

The Music Village Rue des Pierres 50 Steenstraat, Brussels

TRIBUTE TO DUKE ELLINGTON

Frajill (vocals), Jean-Luc Pappi (piano), Bart Borremans (sax),
Chris Mentens (bass), Bruno Castellucci (drums)

These virtuoso, passionate musicians and the talented young singer Frajill will be playing Duke Ellington's well-known and lesser-known standards, those most representative of his sense of swing (It Dont Mean a Thing, Take The "A" Train...) and the sensuality of his ballads (Sophisticated Lady, In My Solitude...), which are still a must for all jazz musicians.

"Jazz is all music", Duke Ellington's famous phrase, full of truth and meaning, illustrates the extent to which he understood the richness of the crossbreeding of cultures (blues, gospel, Latin, jungle, classical music), which can be found in his music and which would open up the many paths of modernity after him.

He was an innovator who didn't hesitate to write jazz suites for big band with orchestration worthy of Maurice Ravel!

Soulful latin Band

Oljana Weyler (vocals), Koen Wauters (guitar),
Steven Van Gool (bass), Stoffel Verlackt (drums), Juan Carlos Rosquete (sax)

Passion by the pool..

It could be the title of a novel, but in fact it’s what Oljana Weyler and Koen Wauters felt when they met in Italy during a workshop organized by Berklee, College of Music.

It has been proven that love & music can be an energizing combination.

So, next to writing their own music under the name of “Jane Spleen”, Oljana & Koen soon discovered that, next to their jobs as music teachers, most of all they wanted to play music, while discovering the world.

Soon, they began to see that playing music could  take them wherever they wanted to go…

For the last 5 years, GetSomeWine performed concerts in more than 10 countries, inside and outside Europe.

Inspired by those travels around the world, they started longing for their own soulful latin band, so they surrounded themselves with other musicians and started rehearsing…

"VOCI. Italiens d'exportation"

The festival will present on the stage of the Music Village, one of the most beautiful, historical, innovative and attractive clubs in Brussels, some of the best singer-songwriters of the Italian music panorama.

Roberta Carrieri is a sign songwriter and excellent ventriloquist. She was born in south Italy, in Puglia, and then she moved to Milan. She has been living for about 3 years in Athens where she has many interesting collaborations with Greek musicians and artists.

She comes from a strong theatrical background and it is this visual experience that she translates into songs where words, which are more evocative than narratives, paint a very personal and at times ironic landscape.

Often playing alone, one voice and a guitar, her simplicity both charms and disarms the audience.

Jazz Singers’ Showcase

The Music Village Rue des Pierres 50 Steenstraat, Brussels

This year is the ninth year of the Jazz Vocal course at Brussels Royal Conservatoire.

With just four singers at the start ‘Chant Jazz’ at CRB is now firmly established - with a community of between ten and twelve singers enrolled at any one time.

Under the guidance of Pete Churchill these singers are fast becoming a positive force on the Brussels Jazz scene and tonight is a chance to hear these Jazz Singers of tomorrow in the intimate surroundings of one of the great Jazz Clubs of Europe. They will be accompanied by the Pete Churchill Trio.

Pete Churchill

In a long international career as a pianist, singer, choral director and conductor, Pete Churchill was, for fifteen years, accompanist to the great Mark Murphy with further collaborations over the years with Jon Hendricks, Sheila Jordan, Norma Winstone, Kenny Wheeler, Abdullah Ibrahim and many more.

Judy Niemack + guest David Linx

The Music Village Rue des Pierres 50 Steenstraat, Brussels

“Voices in Flight” CD-release concert

Judy Niemack, David Linx (vocals), Jeanfrançois Prins (guitar),
Sam Gerstmans (bass), Bruno Castellucci (drums)

New York City jazz vocalist extraordinaire Judy Niemack has worked with the who’s who of jazz. She is celebrating the release of her 17th album “Voices in Flight” (GAM 924), which she recorded in collaboration with her dear friend and vocal jazz icon Jay Clayton. Sadly, Clayton passed away on December 31, 2023. Niemack decided that she would pay tribute to her music and spirit by continuing the “Voices in Flight” adventure, and inviting other great jazz vocalists to celebrate life and music.

Multi-awarded Belgian vocalist David Linx leads an impressive international career, and has collaborated with luminaries of jazz and world music.

Niemack and Linx have already worked together in the past, with Kris Defoort’s band among other projects, but these will be their first performances together in many years. They will be in good company, with a first-class Belgian rhythm section: electricity, musical high-flying, and much interaction to be expected - not to be missed!

When jazz and Pop collide + Jazz Jam Session

The Music Village Rue des Pierres 50 Steenstraat, Brussels

Bruno De Smet (piano)
Julien Derenne (drums)
Sal La Rocca (double bass)
Nicolas Dewalque (guitar/arrangement)

Whether you're a fan of jazz, baroque or electronic music, I think it's safe to say that we've all fallen in love with a piece of pop music. And in the back of our minds, the idea "I wonder what this would sound like if it had been composed in a more modern jazz style" can more than probably take hold. "When jazz and pop collide" was born of this idea, a quartet made up of Bruno De Smet (piano), Julien Derenne (drums), Sal La Rocca (double bass) and Nicolas Dewalque (guitar/arrangement) inspired by sounds such as Gilad Hekselman's cover of "And I love Her" or Brad Meldhau's cover of "Paranoid Android",... Jamiroquai, Radiohead, The Beatles, Michael Jackson,... They'll all be on hand to help you rediscover your favorite pop standards. Whether you're a jazz fan with a taste for the new, or you're looking for an introduction to jazz through familiar melodies, we've got something for you!
