Harry Kanters (piano)   Peter Verhas (cl,sax)  Michael Varekamp  (trumpet, vocal)
Harry Emmery (bass)    Erik Kooger (drums)

The Louis Armstrong Celebration Band brings a program and show in the spirit of Louis Armstrong's classic All Stars. This Dutch/Belgian band consists of nothing but celebrities who have built up a solid name in the European jazz world. They play without copying the original, but do focus on the repertoire that Uncle Satchmo played in the 1940s and 1950s.

This unique 'All Star' company takes the audience on a journey through time when jazz invariably had a high entertainment value. The music is alive and swinging and makes the character of Louis almost tangible. The humorous presentation and singing make attending a concert a real party!

The new version of Maguaré delves into the roots of Colombian and Latin American music and combines it with jazzy sounds. Melody, rhythm and message come together in the hands of seven musicians who take us one on a journey full of experiences and emotions. Maguaré means many things, but its essence lies in the native drum that with his rhythms brings people together. This concept of unity and celebration gave life to Maguaré, a lively band that has brought together people of different nationalities for yearsn with the music of the Caribbean, infused with the flavors of the home country, in a format reminiscent of a big band. Now, 16 years later, after an intense search for identity that is neither from here nor from there, the path opens to a new concept. This new chapter allows us as individuals to contribute our own elements as we navigate through the rhythms and colors we already know, and embrace the collective creation that jazz invites.

JEAN-LUC PAPPI QUARTET INVITES DUNJA

TRIBUTE TO TOM JOBIM

Dunja (vocals), Jean-Luc Pappi (piano), Vincent Brijs (tenor sax), Chris Mentens (bass),
Bruno Castellucci (drums)

This great Brazilian composer is brought to life by Dunja's enchanting, characterful voice and four virtuoso, passionate musicians...

An evening full of joy and nostalgia that speaks of Love...

Antonio Carlos Jobim (1927, Rio - 1994, New York), a Brazilian musician, composer and singer, is the father of bossa nova, which means “new way”, a new way of singing and playing, and which he made known throughout the world thanks in particular to singer Astrud Gilberto and saxophonist Stan Getz.  Jobim was strongly influenced by the new American jazz movement of the 50s, known as bebop, whose harmonies he used (Charlie Parker, Dizzy Gillespie...), and by Chopin, for his melodic and harmonic style. And all to a danceable rhythm reminiscent of Rio carnival (samba) and the sensuality of beautiful Brazilian beaches...

The Wayne Escoffery Quartet “Alone »

The Music Village Rue des Pierres 50 Steenstraat, Brussels, Belgium

Unforgettable Music Journey

Wayne Escoffery | Tenor saxophone
Xavi Torres | Piano
Jasen Weaver | Bass
Sebastiaan de Krom | Drums

ABOUT THE BAND

This spring tour finds the Grammy Award and DownBeat Critics Poll winning saxophonist performing the music from his latest album Alone supported by a rotating cast of world-class rhythm sections across Europe.

ABOUT THE MUSIC

In the summer of 2023, saxophonist and composer Wayne Escoffery found himself alone in a way that he’d never quite experienced before. He was on sabbatical in Europe with a month to himself between tours. A long-term relationship had just ended, and he was confronted with the loss of friendships that he’d once valued. Worst of all, he’d suffered a broken finger that rendered him unable to play the saxophone (his primary outlet for expression) for the first time since he began at age eleven. “Normally, my coping mechanism would be the saxophone,” Escoffery laments. “But even that wasn’t available to me for about nine weeks, so I just had to be alone in my thoughts.”

He made good use of this alone time, conceptualizing the music that makes up his striking and singular new album, Alone. What emerged from that solitude was an extended mood piece, a unique offering that stands out in Escoffery’s diverse discography for its cohesive mood—a deeply personal meditation on loss, resilience, and self-discovery. Breathtakingly interpreted by an all-star quartet featuring iconic bassist Ron Carter, drummer Carl Allen, and pianist Gerald Clayton, Alone is a stunning testament to Escoffery’s artistry and ability to translate solitude into an evocative and unforgettable musical journey.

The band’s musical aesthetic has inspired film directors Julien Regnard and Pascal Giraud (who have also worked with jazz singer Cécile McLorin Salvant): they are currently working on an animated video clip for one of the tracks featured on Nacelle's first EP out in 2025.

Hugo Guezbar Quartet – Swing manouche

The Music Village Rue des Pierres 50 Steenstraat, Brussels, Belgium

Lead Guitar : Hugo Guezbar
Piano : Wouter Van den Broeck
Double Bass : Ben Van Bortel
Rhythm Guitar : Sam Op de Beeck

Jazz in the style of Django Reinhardt with one of the finest French guitarists in this genre.

Who thinks about Django Reinhardt, thinks about Gypsy Jazz. Django Reinhardt changed the swing jazz scene in its early years. Together with Stephane Grapelli he gave its own definition to hot jazz, now mostly referred to as Gypsy Jazz or Jazz Manouche. Today, the genre is played and adored worldwide. But also in Belgium, where Django is born and started his path.

Tonight we will honor one of the greatest jazz guitarists with a living legend of France, Hugo Guezbar.

Already a young age, Hugo has created his own unique style and switches furious strong lines into beautiful romantic solos. He travels through the whole world to share his music and tonight he has landed in Brussels.

He will be accompanied by the great Wouter Van den Broeck on piano. Wouter conserves the traditional jazz in his own beautiful style, and will immediately carry you on that jazz vibe of the mid 50s of last century.

Expect images and a multi-sensorial experience, immersive both musically and emotionally.

ECHO WOODS – Amazing 6tet

The Music Village Rue des Pierres 50 Steenstraat, Brussels, Belgium

Matteo Di Leonardo - electric guitar, compositions
Toine Thys - tenor saxophone, soprano saxophone, bass clarinet
Marcello Giannandrea - bassoon
Shao Huan Hung - sheng
Emanuel Van Mieghem - doublebass
Umberto Odone - drums

Echo Woods is a musical ensemble founded by jazz guitarist Matteo Di Leonardo.

At the heart of Echo Woods lies the fusion of modern jazz with contemporary experimentation. The band stands out for its unconventional instrumentation, blending the warmth and versatility of a classic trio—electric guitar, double bass, and drums—with an unusual wind section composed of bass clarinet, saxophones, bassoon, and the sheng, a traditional Chinese wind instrument.
This combination creates a soundscape rich in contrasts and nuances. Di Leonardo's compositions are a mix of sharp melodies and soft
harmonic textures, where the instruments converse and intertwine, resulting in an immersive and innovative listening experience.
Echo Woods aims to take the listener on an immersive musical journey, where the dialogue between instruments creates a constantly evolving sound space. They’ve released their first album in March 2025 under the Belgian label “Hans Kusters music”.

Kind of Blue Tribute

The Music Village Rue des Pierres 50 Steenstraat, Brussels, Belgium

Pierre Malempré (Trumpet), Michel Mainil (sax), Thomas Champagne (sax),
Maxime Moyaerts (Piano), Fil Caporali (bass), Bruno Castellucci (Drums)

On August the 17th 1959, trumpeter Miles Davis published the album “Kind of Blue”. This recording is still considered as the most important work of Miles Davis.

Best-selling jazz album, first Jazz Gold Record, “Kind of Blue” is recognized as the most influential album of the whole jazz history.

As his usual, Miles had the sagacity to propose this album at the right moment. On one hand, a generation of musicians didn’t want to sideline tradition and, on the other hand, a group of vanguard creators tried to open new doors.

Miles Davis, supported by his peers, opened a new approach, the modal jazz. Forty years after his recording, this album is considered as a turning point in jazz history, a way of moving away from dense compositions, coming back to the melody …

The project of (re)presenting “Kind of Blue” was born out of the meeting and desire of 6 musicians to recreate in their way the essence of this legendary album. The pleasure of playing together music that didn’t lose his freshness and creativity.

ENJOY!

The Mardi Gras Jazzband is since 1983 an established name in jazzclubs and festivals in Belgium and perhaps even more in the Netherlands.
"Old Style" has been the motto all the time, in which long forgotten songs and surprising themes prevail.
This shows that "New Orleans jazz" is so much more than the playing style of black musicians who visited our regions in the sixties and seventies.
Their favourite repertoire dates from the "Roaring Twenties".
The Mardi Gras Jazzband has been around for over 40 years and was a regular guest at The Music Village.

In February 2019, six young musicians from Brussels are flying to New Orleans.

Fascinated by the jazz of the ‘20s, they found themselves sharing the streets and the stage with local musicians, the Blue Mockingbirds were born.
The Blue Mockingbirds take their name from America's jazziest bird, a bird with the ability to imitate other birdsong. But the group doesn't limit itself to simple covers of songs from the ‘20s. They compose and rearrange century-old gems with taste and in the New Orleans style they love so much.

Music has been part of my life for as long as I can remember.

While I mainly sing pop and rock, my influences are quite eclectic. I’ve trained with several vocal coaches ans also studied jazz at the Jazz Studio which really broadened my musical horizon.

For nearly 20 years, I taught singing at Rock’s Cool in Namur and Tamines.

But what I love most is performing live. Throughout the years and until now, I’ve been singing with various cover bands. One thing’s fot sur : the stage is where I feel truly alive : sharing energy with audience, living the moment.

Today, I keep exploring, singing, and connecting through music… always guided by passion.

The Music Village Rue des Pierres 50 Steenstraat, Brussels, Belgium

Martijn Schok (NL), piano.
Greta Holtrop (NL), vocals.
Tristan Patigny (B), drums.

Martijn Schok (NL), piano.

The name Martijn Schok is synonymous with boogie woogie and piano blues. Martijn has played many European jazz and blues festivals and can be seen regularly at festivals in the USA. Martijn performs solo, as well as with his swinging band, and has up till now released sixteen successful boogie woogie CDs. Also, Martijn can be heard on many CDs as a guest boogie woogie or blues piano player. October 19th 2013, Martijn received the German Pinetop Boogie Woogie Award "Pianist Of The Year 2013/2014". This award is the most important music award for Boogie Woogie in Germany and was awarded for the third time. Martijn's piano style is characterized by a large dose of swing, a steady groove and a high degree of virtuosity. It is clear he has a great deal of admiration for the music of the early American boogie woogie originators. Martijn is a respected interpreter of the boogie woogie style and appears at famous international festivals, such as the festival in New Orleans (Louisiana, USA), the Queen City Blues Festival in Cincinnati (Ohio, USA), the Motor City Boogie & Blues Festival in Detroit (Michigan, USA), Blues Passions in France, and the international boogie woogie festivals in Switzerland, Belgium, France, Italy, England, Spain and the USA. Besides his performing qualities, Martijn is the Artistic Director and founder of the Heineken International Boogie & Blues Festival Holland.

Greta Holtrop (NL), vocals.

With her versatile vocal talent and charismatic stage presence, singer Greta Holtrop forms the perfect partner for Martijn’s swinging piano style. Her expressive voice, full of sincerity and emotion, seduces the ear with sultry interpretations of sensitive blues songs, turning just as easily to lively, swinging boogies. Boogie woogie great, Big Joe Duskin, has described her vocal tone as somewhere between Billie Holiday and Dina Washington. Together with Martijn, Greta performed during Boogie Woogie and Blues Festival in the USA, Switzerland, France, Belgium and England. Greta also sang with other top boogie woogie players such as Bob Seeley (USA), Charlie Booty (USA), Jean-Paul Amouroux (F), Axel Zwingenberger (D), Ricky Nye (USA), Little Willie Littlefield (USA), Silvan Zingg (CH), Stefano Franco (It) and Mark Braun (USA). Greta was the vocalist and presenter of the successful theatre show, The Grand Piano Boogie Train with pianists Martijn Schok, Jaap Dekker and Jeroen Sweers. Greta performed many times for national television in Holland as well as regional TV stations in the USA.

Tristan Patigny was born in 1964 in Brussels into a family of professional musicians. His father was a violinist with the National Orchestra and then a violist with the RTBF Symphony Orchestra. He was also a bow maker for some of the greatest violin virtuosos. His mother, organist at St. Gudule Cathedral, became a presenter on RTBF's Radio Classique. Tristan Patigny began his percussion studies with Calyer Duncan and attended the Boisfort Academy with André Van Belle, then the Royal Conservatory of Music with George Octors Jr. After graduating from the conservatory, he joined the RTBF Symphony Orchestra for two years. Fascinated by jazz, he embraced swing and taught himself. At home, records of Grand Jazz were constantly playing, and his parents, brothers, and sister would jam with friends. Tristan Patigny has become one of Belgium's most prominent drummers, playing a variety of styles on numerous stages in Belgium, the Netherlands, Germany, France, and Switzerland with the Guy Raiff Trio, the Eddy Defacq Quartet, and Squeeze Me Jazz Band, with whom he has recorded. He also plays in small groups with Phil Abraham, Paul Dubois, Roger Vanhaverbeke, Alexandre Furnelle, Jean Van Lint, Jean-Pierre Mouton, Marc Hérouet, Yves Gourmeur, and Jules Van Dijk.
