Thomas Delor Trio

The Music Village Rue des Pierres 50 Steenstraat, Brussels

Tribute to Thelonious Monk

Simon Martineau (guitar), Georges Correia (double bass),
Thomas Delor (drums)

Few drummers assume the role of leader and composer. With rare exceptions, the results often sacrifice the fine details of harmonic and melodic development in favor of complex time signatures and tempo changes: the trio of French musician Thomas Delor, accompanied by Simon Martineau on guitar and Georges Correia on bass, radically breaches the rule.

Thomas Delor managed to make his trio sound as a unique group, with an unusual language, inimitable nuances and a creativity both subtle and explosive at the same time. His compositions, his arrangements and the interpretations follow a similar treatment, identifiable from the first note, based on the exploration of his instrument which seems to be limitless, turning him into a delicate blend of rhythmist melodist colorist.

For this special night at the Music Village of Brussels, the Thomas Delor Trio will play the music of the great composer and improviser Thelonious Monk.

The trio released in september 2018 "The Swaggerer" (awarded « Album Revelation » by Jazz Magazine, « Album of the year 2018 » by Libération, « Hit » Couleurs Jazz, etc.) then in may 2020 "Silence The 13th" (« 4 stars » by Jazz Magazine, « 4 stars » by Jazz Journal (UK), « Awarded » by Citizen Jazz, awarded « Indispensable » by Paris-Move/Blues Magazine, etc.), both praised by the international press, with the support of the SCPP and produced by the label Fresh Sound New Talent.

The Mardi Gras Jazzband

The Music Village Rue des Pierres 50 Steenstraat, Brussels

OLD STYLE NEW ORLEANS

"Papa" Paul Callebaut (leader, vocals, trombone), Wim "Dix" Decommer (piano),
Paul "Speedy" De Bock (bass), Michel Simons (trumpet),
Jan "Magic" Coppieters (clarinet), Marnix De Boom (drums),
Mattias "Fidgety" Hallin (banjo)

The Mardi Gras Jazzband is since 1983 an established name in jazzclubs and festivals in Belgium and perhaps even more in the Netherlands.

"Old Style" has been the motto all the time, in which long forgotten songs and surprising themes prevail.

This shows that "New Orleans jazz" is so much more than the playing style of black musicians who visited our regions in the sixties and seventies.

Their favourite repertoire dates from the "Roaring Twenties".

MASSIMO FORMICA TRANS/FUZION BAND

The Music Village Rue des Pierres 50 Steenstraat, Brussels

Massimo Formica (guitar), René Zaprzelka (sax), René Calvin (bass),
Marcus Weymaere (drums)

The group formed on the initiative of Massimo Formica gathered around this one: René Calvin on bass, René Zaprzalka on saxophone and Marcus Weymare on drums. These musicians, from different backgrounds, dialogue with talents for the sole pleasure of our ears. What emerges is a real musical crossbreeding which has as its backdrop a friendship shared on stage with the public. The repertoire is made up in particular of original compositions which are sometimes intimate fires that crackle and tickle your hearing, sometimes fires that set the audience on fire. TRANS/FUZION also reappropriates with the impertinence of the pieces of Mike Stern, Jhon Scofield, Chick Corea, thereby proving that interpretation and improvisation are only two complementary approaches to music.

« Ray Charles and Betty Carter ». This incredible duo with big band has been a great source of inspiration to sister and brother Nat and Max Van Eerdewegh since they’ve  discovered it last Christmas. Both being pianist and singer, they never had a band together before, but you’ll feel in this deep and energising set the obvious and lifelong complicity that gather them around music. With these outstanding musicians and friends, they’ve created a new quintet and they’ll play famous and rarer songs of that album as well as underground tunes once played by Betty or Ray.

 » Apologie du cul «

The Music Village Rue des Pierres 50 Steenstraat, Brussels

The latter, sometimes called "My Son The Jazz Drummer", sometimes called "Steps To The Desert" is an album by drummer Shelly Manne which pays homage to Jewish music. Indeed, the music consists of a West Coast/ Hard Bop adaptation of the magnificent Jewish musical folklore. Therefore, the two friends decided to pay tribute to this great album in it's entirety, surrounding themselves with the best jazz musicians of Brussels!

NEW ORLEANS NIGHT OWLS

The Music Village Rue des Pierres 50 Steenstraat, Brussels

Dirk Van Der Linden (piano), Peter Verhas (reeds), Stefan Willems (bass),
Peter Hermann (drums), Joris De Cock (trumpet)

Founded 07/05/1989 by Joris De Cock with a heart for New Orleans Revival jazz!

NO-music is basically “a simple melody with a beat” played the spontaneous charming way for entertainment. “Music for All Occasions!” means good for concerts and functional on party’s! Next to Classic Dixieland tunes popular songs came to the scene - not always appreciated by Jazz fanatics - but a  lot of popular hits from film and musicals became jazz-standards e.g. “My funny Valentine”. This explains why beside traditional-jazz tunes NONO’s program is inspired by artists as Louis Armstrong, Fats Domino, Dave Bartholomew, Louis Prima, Dr. John, “Fess” Longhair, Ray Charles and some Blues giants...  and yes: they are all connected to the Crescent City!

Tribute to the Crooners

Chris Simon (vocals) Michel Mainil (sax) Bruno Castellucci (drums),

Why does this guy sings?

No question about that. He sings just to tell a story, the one imagined by the authors and componists of the songs he use to sing. And if he does it the way the crooners did, it is just because their repertoire contains the most beautiful songs ever writen.

Chris is the singer of the well known big band West Music Club for many years but also singer in many reknowed belgian top musicians combo’s. So, all you have to do is to get on board for a romantic, harmonic but also swinging journey.

Definitively not to be missed.

The rhythm section is supported by Kays Frihat on bass and Oscar Georges on drums and enhanced by Thomas Sagne's guitar which is an invitation to adventure. Various soloists will come as “guests” to add this particular tone giving depth to the groove and melodies of Pascal who, on the piano, perfectly completes this ensemble to give this much sought-after urban music.

After participating in such prestigious events as Afro-Latino, Esperanzah, Polé Polé, Tanjazz festival, Afro Yambi Jazz is back!

The band has developed a coherent project which is based on the rich individual contributions of each band member.

Their repertoire consists essentially of original titles. Put together through collective work, it presents a subtle balance between original compositions and improvisations.  In short, a constant creativity at the service of a sophisticated musical concept, which nevertheless, remains accessible to everyone.

This non conventional approach most certainly brings something new from what is ordinarily available today.  While conserving the best part of the tradition, the lyrics meet the daily life cares.

In one word, we could say that Africa embraces Jazz and vice versa  And let’s rejoice in that!
