Milan Verbist Trio
album release concert “Time Change”
Milan Verbist - piano
Toon Rumen - double bass
Jens Meijer - drums
Jazz pianist Milan Verbist will present his debut album at The Music Village on Sept. 29, 2025, with his trio consisting of Toon Rumen on double bass and Jens Meijer (NL) on drums.
This trio played an extensive series of concerts and from there, the idea of recording an album emerged. The recordings took place in March 2025, and on Sept. 19 the album will be released on the American jazzlabel Origin Records. The repertoire ranges from Milan's own atmospheric, but also swinging compositions, to arrangements on works by Gary Peacock, J.S. Bach and Ornette Coleman.
Milan Verbist (b. 1999) is a young jazz pianist from Antwerp, Belgium. He studied at the Royal Conservatory in Antwerp, where he graduated with greatest distinction in 2022. His playing is enriched by the influences of many musicians whom he listens to and appreciates, including pianists McCoy Tyner, Herbie Hancock, Bobo Stenson, Don Pullen, Marcin Wasilewski, Wynton Kelly... In 2023, Milan was selected to be part of “De Twintigers,” a selection of ten young, promising musicians created by Radio Klara. Milan played together with prominent musicians such as Jakob Bro (DK), Chris Potter (USA), Lionel Loueke (BJ), John Ruocco (USA), John Bishop (USA), Bert Joris (BE), Kurt Van Herck (BE).
Milan surrounds himself with a rhythm section consisting of Toon Rumen (°2001) on double bass and Jens Meijer (°1996) on drums. The musicians of the trio got to know each other during jam sessions and at the Conservatory. Since then the trio has played some 30 concerts in Belgium and made recordings.
