TRIBUTE TO DUKE ELLINGTON
Frajill (vocals), Jean-Luc Pappi (piano), Bart Borremans (sax),
Chris Mentens (bass), Bruno Castellucci (drums)
These virtuoso, passionate musicians and the talented young singer Frajill will be playing Duke Ellington’s well-known and lesser-known standards, those most representative of his sense of swing (It Dont Mean a Thing, Take The “A” Train…) and the sensuality of his ballads (Sophisticated Lady, In My Solitude…), which are still a must for all jazz musicians.
“Jazz is all music”, Duke Ellington’s famous phrase, full of truth and meaning, illustrates the extent to which he understood the richness of the crossbreeding of cultures (blues, gospel, Latin, jungle, classical music), which can be found in his music and which would open up the many paths of modernity after him.
He was an innovator who didn’t hesitate to write jazz suites for big band with orchestration worthy of Maurice Ravel!
