Milan Verbist piano
Toon Rumen double bass
Jens Meijer drums

Milan Verbist (°1999) is a young jazz pianist from Antwerp, Belgium. He studied at De! Kunsthumaniora and the Royal Conservatoire, both in Antwerp, where he graduated with greatest distinction in 2022. He took lessons with Ewout Pierreux, Erik Vermeulen, Nicola Andrioli, among others… His playing is enriched by the influences of many musicians he listens to and appreciates, including pianists McCoy Tyner, Herbie Hancock, Marcin Wasilewski, Wynton Kelly, Bobo Stenson, Don Pullen… In 2023, Milan was selected to be part of ‘De Twintigers 2023’, a selection of ten young, promising musicians, made by Radio Klara. Milan played together with prominent musicians such as Jakob Bro (DK), Chris Potter (USA), Lionel Loueke (BJ), John Ruocco (USA), John Bishop (USA), Bert Joris (BE), Kurt Van Herck (BE). Milan surrounds himself with a rhythm section consisting of Toon Rumen (°2001, BE) on double bass and Jens Meijer (°1996, NL) on drums. Their repertoire consists of Milan’s own compositions, as well as compositions by musicians who inspire them, and their own arrangements and interpretations of the broader jazz repertoire. The trio’s musicians got to know each other during jam sessions and at the Conservatory. At a first concert together, it clicked immediately. Since then, the trio has played concerts and made recordings.
