In this project, Nilson Matta and John Snauwaert start from Brazilian roots music and rhythms from this rich culture.
Also in Brazil, musicians are always looking for new influences in their musics and therefore the music is constantly moving and developing.
Nilson Matta, born in Sao Paulo and moved to Rio de Janeiro as a teenager, won a Grammy Award along with Joe Henderson, among others. He was brought up on Brazilian rhythms as a child and is known by the New York jazz scene as an innovator of this music.
Saxophonist John Snauwaert has also visited the land of samba several times and has been working for six years on different projecter together with bassist Nilson Matta, from whom he got to know Brazilian music from a closer distance. He has been asked by the organisation Samba Meets Jazz, from New York, to teach in New York and Rio de Janeiro for an international Samba Meets Jazz Stage in the coming years.
