With a guitar, an upright bass, their two voices, and a violin they give a nice and powerful set recisiting jazz standards from early to modern pieces and also their own compositions too.

Among the blend of their voices, they are also great soloists, their strings fit together perfectly and their rage of keeping the drive of swing makes them a very tight rhytmic section.

JEAN-LUC PAPPI TRIO Ft VINCENT MARDENS

TRIBUTE TO DUKE ELLINGTON

Jean-luc Pappi (piano), Vincent Mardens (sax),
Chris Mentens (bass), Thierry Gutmann (drums)

« Jazz is all music », a well-known phrase of Duke Ellington, full of truth and meaning, which illustrates to what extent he understood the richness of the mixture of cultures (blues, gospel, Latin, jungle, classical music), which can be found in his music and which will open up the many paths of modernity after him.

He was an innovator who did not hesitate to write jazz suites for big band with an orchestration worthy of Maurice Ravel !

And when you listen to him at the piano, you can hear his orchestration work in search of new sounds.

We have chosen to play for you the great known and less known standards, which are the most representative of his sense of swing, (It Dont Mean a Thing, Take The « A » Train…) and of the sensuality of his ballads, (Sophisticated Lady, Prelude to a kiss…) which remain essential for all jazz musicians.

Gaye, Al Green or Serge Gainsbourg… If you close your eyes, you can almost hear the

Don Marsh Trio

Joy & Infectious Swing

Wouter Van den Broeck (piano), Tom Lambrecht (drums), Jasper de Roeck (bass)

Wouter is a musician who’s always working in two directions. On one side he’s searching his own voice as a composer and improviser, on the the other hand he constantly tries to broaden his knowledge of the rich culture and history of jazz. This trio follows the lineage of the great trio’s lead by pianists like Phines Newborn, Wynton Kelly, Mulgrew Miller, etc… Expect to hear some lesser known compositions from the hard- and bebop era, joy and infectious swing ensured!

Marco R. Wagner "Back to the Plow"

Country-swing, folk, blues

Marco R. Wagner (vocals, guitar)

Grandson of an orchestra director of German descent, son of a Spanish painter and a Brazilian pianist, Marco was born and raised in Rio de Janeiro’s 1960’s art scene. He left for the U.S. in the 80’s to drink from all the traditional styles that meld into this enormous umbrella we call Americana. His latest work “Back to the Plow” is a record made with the love of someone who minds to detail his condition as a rooted artist, where he tracked all instruments and vocals in his home studio. Edited and mastered by Grammy-Award winner Michael Saint-Leon (The Switchyard Studios, Nashville) and published by Several Records (Spain), fans of Loudon Wainwright III or James Taylor will find their favorite music on this album.

The music of Fabrice Mukuna evokes an almost folkloristic atmosphere that is reminiscent of his home village, its Luba-tongue and the land of Kasaï. The whole is infused with a more contemporary Western and jazz-like touch.

His band reflects the multicultural aspects of his music.

Through this compelling whole of colourful harmonies and powerful Afro Latino rhythmic cadenses, interaction with the public is also generously nourished and emphasized. A superb voyage ahead to start the Jam session.
